32 or 64 bit CPU?

March 17, 2004

I need to setup a new machine. I never by branded computers because I enjoy assembling and installing linux on my own. Unfortunately when using linux it's not always a good idea to go for the latests in hardware. The reason being that most of the device drivers are created by independent software developers (hats off to them) but they are always catching up.

So my worry now is that If I go with a 64 bit system I may find that the device drivers may not be very stable. If I go with a 32 bit system I may find myself with an obsolete piece of junk on my hands in three months time.

It must be blissfull not to be a geek.
