Java and PHP

May 26, 2004

Now there is an argument on Java in the PHP mailing list. A couple of wags have commented that an applet cannot connect to the server it originated from. Unfortunately the first to make that comment does not know the meaning of localhost.

He had written an applet that attempts to connect to localhost, which obviously does not work because the localhost is the client machine, the one in which the browser is running. Now a nother wag cut and pasted from the java website and made another post which explained where the applet will be executed. This same wag also suggested that you cannot connect to the originating server either.

Talking in detail about java on the php general list is off topic, I did however point them to my article on on applet security not sure if they will understand it.
