My sister has good news for me. She has managed to get hold of a Sigma 50-500 mm lens for my Nikon in spite of the shortage. It's back ordered at many camera shops and wasn't available anywhere in New York. She ordered through Amazon and it was delivered yesterday to her address in the US.
