6630 and GPRS easy connect woesMarch 5, 2005Configuring PPPD is a pain. The last few times I had to set up a GPRS connection on linux, GPRS easy connect came in very handy because it can write the chat scripts for you. Unfortunately the Nokia 6630 is not one of the phones listed in it's HCL. I still decided to give it a shot reckoning that modifying a script generated for a similar phone would be a lot less painfull than doing it from scratch. Installing the new version of easy connect certainly was not easy. One of the requirements; the Tk (800.023) module (whatever that is) was missing and had to download it and install it from cpan. Thankfully it seems to be a demo that is messed up, just like our president does not care two hoots for democracy, I do not care two hoots about the demo and happily did a rm -rf, it was no great suprise when the system still refused to compile. Once upon a long ago, I might have spent a few hours trying to get to the bottom of this. Havng tried out the CMS I came to realise that life is too short to try out all the different software out there. If something does not work as documented, deleting it usually is the best course of action. In this case the documentation tells me the Tk.pm is ancient history.
