            <p>Many moons ago, <a href="343.html">I downloaded subversion</a> because I had messed up the CVS installation on my computer (not that I was making much use of it anyway) and wanted to try something different. Finally I had a chance to install it.</p>
            <p>One of my worst habits is downloading a software and leaving it to rot in some remote corner of my hard disk. While searching for something or other I stumble upon these and decide to have a go at instalation. Often the version number would have changed since the time I downloaded but it doesn't really matter, I am usually installing software just for the sake of finding out what it is.</p>
            <p>Subversion apparently depends on the <a href="https://apr.apache.org/">apache portable runtime </a>&nbsp;(apr), judging by the time taken by the configure script to complete, that's just the tip of the iceberg. I started installing mono a couple of days back and that certainly seemed to go much faster.</p>
            <p>I immidiately moved the entire folder to /dev/shm before continuing with the installation. Othewise this might take as long as the kernel to compile itself. After that the compilation tooks just a couple of minutes.</p>
            <p>Once the installation is complete the next step was to create the repository, which was done with <em>svnadmin create /var/subversion/</em> before importing any projects I had to spend some time on RTFM, since my project folders contain compiled classes and other stuff which should not make be placed into the repository. In fact the area of TFM that covers svn:ignore is very poor. In fact the subversion manual is almost as bad as the CVS manual.</p>

            <p>There was a new release of <a href="http://www.radinks.com/upload/dnd.php">Rad Upload</a> yesterday, this is th first new release after a period of more than 2 months. The new release <a href="http://www.radinks.com/upload/changes.php">version 1.30</a> adds support for SSL encryption. That means Rad Upload can now be used with HTTP, HTTPS or FTP.</p>
            <p>The release almost coincides with the 1st anniversary of the product. It was first release in October of last year and we had the first sales on Oct 14, 2004 we have come a long way since then. I like to think that we have played a significant part in the gradual comeback that is being made by applets.</p>
            <p>When we started out with <a href="http://www.radinks.com/sftp">our SFTP applet</a> applets being used for file management was extremely rare and ours was the first SFTP applet. Now there is stiff competion which we welcome.</p>

Rad Upload and HTTPS

            <p>The site with the lamp has finally been '<a href="../../wiki/index.html">wikified</a>'</p>
            <p>If you are a frequent visitor here you might have noticed that I spent a bit of time looking at a few wiki scripts, a few days back I decided to <a href="529.html">end the quest</a> by settling on mediawiki as the chosen one.</p>
            <p>&nbsp;</p>
            <p>The chosen one is now at work on this. Though I wanted to hide away the edit pages behind a username and password ( you can do that by changing just a few lines of mediawiki code) I decided not to so so at this stage. When you are starting off a wiki, it's usually a blank other than for the system messages, you canno really expect people to contribute to such a blank wiki even if someone was inclined to make a contribution he is likely to run a mile when asked to register.</p>
            <p>&nbsp;</p>
            <p>So the wiki is editable by anyone, even with out a login until it is vandalised. If it ever becomes vandalised I will be pretty happy because that means this site is being noticed.</p>

            <p>update 2011-11-28 : The site was wikified but it kept getting vandalized till it could no longer be maintained. More about it <a href="bye-bye-wiki.html">here</a></p>
