            <p>My sister was working on her macbook when the battery died. Nothing unusual with that. After waiting till the last possible moment she plugged it in but the charging light wouldn't come on. A few moments later the system went to sleep automatically. Now it wouldn't switch it self back on.</p>
            <p>Signs are not good, the battery could be gone for good apple batteries are notorious after all. Then again it could be a problem with the charger. So I tried mine. No luck. Then I took out the battery on her computer and replaced it with mine, sure enough the machine started up but it still wouldn't charge. Next step was to try the charger on my macbook and hey, it works!</p>
            <p>Then I tried switching the batteries again; the battery and charger combination that wouldn't work on my sister's computer seem to work fine on mine. It was then that I looked at the socket. To paper clips are firmly stuck on it! They had been attracted by the magnet on the power supply socket and it took quite a bit of effort to dislodge them but normal service was restored afterwards.</p>
            <p>Since I have had some bad experience with dead macbooks I was worried. I wasn't looking forward to lugging this to one of the <a href="http://www.webquarry.com/~raditha/blog/archives/001303.html">Apple local agents.</a></p>

Not another dead macbook!

            <p>After a long delay <a href="http://www.radinks.com/upload/">Rad Upload</a> version 4.0 is finally out. It's a big <a href="http://www.radinks.com/upload/new.php">change</a> from the previous version. Almost everything that you could do with the old version of Rad Upload Plus, you can now do with the Rad Upload Standard Edition.</p>
            <p>Some of the features that were previously available only in Rad Upload Plus such as the client side image resize feature, the ability to filter out unwanted file types and
                <a href="http://www.radinks.com/upload/plus/javascript.php">javascript events</a> to name a few have now been included in the standard edition as well.
            </p>
            <p>So what then is the difference between the plus and the standard editions? Well with Rad Upload Plus an upload is now resumable. If you suffer a network outage while a large file transfer is in progress, you no longer need to resend the whole collection of files all over again.</p>
            <p>HTTP file uploads are governed by RFC 1867. It says that all the files should be combined together to created a single MIME message of the 'multipart/form-data' type. This message is then POSTed to the server. Which means that regardless of the number of files that you need to upload there is only one HTTP post.</p>
            <p>Most server side scripting languages are not equipped to parse the MIME message unless the full data is available. If there is only partial data, it will be discarded. As a result resumable uploads are normally not possible with RFC 1867.</p>
            <p>When using Rad Upload Plus applet's <a href="http://www.radinks.com/upload/plus/resume.php">resumable mode</a>, it will not obey RFC 1867. If there's more than one file to upload there will be more than one HTTP posts. If any of the files are greater than 512kb then there will be multiple posts for each file. Since files are posted one at a time, they need to be reassembled at the server. And code to do just that is included in the download.</p>
            <p>The server side handler code, can be edited to carry out any post upload processing such as creating database records or sending out email notifications.</p>

            <p>Dialog Telkom is slipping.</p>
            <p>Recently a friend, a Dialog WiMax subscriber moved house. His connection didn't follow him for more than a week. His livelihood like mine depends on been connected. So in desparation he sent an email to the Dialog CEO. With in an hour he had his antenna shifted. This just goes to show that dialog is getting even more top heavy than usual. What is equally rediculous is that they are still using fixed antennas for what is supposedly a mobile technology.</p>
            <p>Another friend well and truely does have a mobile office. Even though he owns a car, he goes around by bike cause he can get more work done that way. Naturally he had a huge monthly bill on his dialog phone, but then he had an argument with one of Dialog's pathetic excuses for customer service staff and disconnected his phone in anger. So all the money that Dialog Telekom was getting is now been sent to mobitel.</p>
            <p>Most of this guy's contacts, with dialog phones used it instead of their land lines when ringing him up. Now many do use their land lines instead. Now you will ask what's a few thousand bucks to them? To Dialog Telekom these few thousand bucks really do matter, It is one of those company's that claim that the other 80% is where their real money is.</p>
