The other day I wrote about the confusion over the latest java version numbers (or at least my confusion.), though I hoped that downloading the j2sdk (?) and the documention will shed more light on it, the situation remains murky as far as I am concened.
Why? both downloads have been corrupted in transit. So I have to donwload the whole thing all over again and bandwidth in my country is expensive. what bad luck.
I have however managed to dig up one more clue on this mystery. The downloads are no longer named as j2sdk. but as jdk thus the two files that I obtained are labled jdk-1_5_0-beta2-doc.zip and jdk-1_5_0-beta2-linux-i586-rpm.bin. Compare this against the 1.4 version that I last downloaded the SDK is labelled j2sdk-1_4_2-linux-i586-rpm.bin
The plot thickens.
