Compressed File Upload

A new version of Rad Upload was released a few hours ago. It can now gzip compress files as they are being uploaded.

A compressed file upload has many advantages the most obvious is the your bandwidth consumption drops dramatically. The end user will have to spend less time uploading whater it is that they want to share on your site.

Not so obvious is the fact that compression would allow you to overcome some of the server configured limits on file upload. Of course if you are on your own server, you can simply change the limits. If not you can sneak in a larger file simply by gzipping it to reduce it's size.

Other advantages include the fact that smaller uploads can be processed faster at the server and in most cases they consume less memory and of course you need less space to store the files as well.

Finally Rad Upload does not rely on any external tools for the compression.
